For Christmas, we work in association with Colibri, making Christmas cards which some of the volunteers are going to take back to Germany and sell in order to raise money to buy their own Christmas presents. This not only gives the children the opportunity of having a goal to aim for but also allows them to make objects in exchange for money and food.
The children come to Colibri with their homework each day, as they spend their free time working on the streets this time is vital for them to keep up with their schoolwork and benefit from the help that the volunteers give them. This is essential in order that they leave school with a decent level of education.
A new initiative in Colibri is English classes. These classes are provided in order to help the children gain a basic knowledge of English which will help them immensely when they work, especially in Cusco – the tourist capital of Peru. The classes run for each of the three hours in which Colibri is open from 5pm until 8pm.
Going to Colibri also gives the children an opportunity to relax. They have the opportunity to play games, do puzzles, watch television, paint, draw and play on the computer.
